Théophile-Jean Dubos, husband of Charlotte Delbos, took over the estate 1892, with the help of his two sons Peter and Bernard. Theophilus Dubos was both owner and winemaker Cantemerle, vice president of the Union of classified growths of the Medoc and negociant at the company Dubos Brothers sold in 1914. Upon the death of Theophilus in 1905, Pierre and Bernard Dubos were co-owners of Cantemerle until 1923, when Peter became sole owner. During the war and the crisis years 1930-1940, numerous parcels of vines were uprooted from Cantemerle and since 1945, Cantemerle grew only about 25 hectares of vines which were maintained until 1981.Upon the death of Pierre Dubos in 1962, his youngest son Bertrand Clauzel became the sole manager and remained so until the sale of the estate in 1981 to Mutual Insurance Building and Public Works.

Smells attractive, with spicy oak and currant aromas, and is rich and soft on the palate, with smooth tannins and a subtle aftertaste.
The 1988 Cantemerle possesses adequate hard, dry tannins, but unlike many Medocs, there is sufficient fruit. The classy bouquet of black fruits, minerals, and spices is hard to resist. Medium-bodied and elegant, with plummy, mineral, and herb flavors
