The German Stephan von Neipperg has given his all to resurrect the reputation of this chateau that had an excellent reputation in the years after World War II. In the vineyard the work has become more rigorous, the yields have significantly diminished and the vinification has taken a modern path giving the wines a remarkable concentration.

The 1955 Canon la Gaffelière is showing well, exhibiting pretty aromas of dried red berries, vine smoke, orange rind, pipe tobacco and sweet soil tones. Medium-bodied, elegant and fine-boned, it's understated but intensely flavored, with melting tannins and a long, sapid finish.
Information on the vintage red Bordeaux: A very good, somewhat underestimated yet useful vintage, now undeservingly neglected.
(10-2011) From a perfectly stored bottle, tobacco, earth, forest floor, stone, flowers, cherries, smoke, spice and ash aromas were in full force. Medium/full bodied, with soft textures meshed with the patina of age, this fully mature Bordeaux wine ended with a melange of spicy cherry flavors. It's not often I get to experience wines that are close to 60 years old. It's always a special treat.
