Château Calon-Ségur is a 94 hectare wine estate located in Saint-Estèphe on the left bank of the Gironde. Third classified grand cru (classification of 1855) of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, this great wine is often recognizable by its label. The Château Calon-Ségur vineyard grows on gravelly and hilly terrain. The vineyard of the estate is made up of 65% cabernet-sauvignon, 20% merlot, 15% cabernet franc with vines of 40 years of average age. The wine is aged in a very traditional way for 24 months on average in oak barrels, partially new (30 to 50% depending on the year).
Calon-Ségur wine is generally considered to be one of the most powerful and full-bodied Saint-Estèphe wines in the appellation. The estate also produces a second wine Marquis de Calon Segur and a cru bourgeois, Capbern Gasqueton.
