Information on the vintage 1949 red Bordeaux:
The third of the great trio of post-war vintages. Stylistically quite different from the concentrated 1945s and the ripe and more opulent 1947s. At their best, and there were many wines of great style, avoiding some of the constraints and excesses of the two other vintages just mentioned. The best are still superb but living precariously.

Henri Lurton is the soul of this estate which already had a good reputation in the eighteenth century. It is true that the terroir is superb. He adds his style, harveting at the height of ripemess, strictly sorting the grapes, stamping the mark of the terroir on the wines, with a richer raw material, a new aromatic complexity and elegance that allow the wines to age longer than in the past. A great Margaux at affordable prices.
