Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
It has a beautifully defined, very detailed bouquet with mineral-rich black fruit laced with cedar and graphite notes, living up to its nom de plume as the "Pauillac of Margaux." The palate is simply the best that I have ever tasted at the estate, without question. This has presence, but also weightlessness, filigree tannin and perfectly pitched acidity, with real intensity and drive. The tension here is outstanding and the persistence is incredibly long. It is not the showiest of all the 2016s by a long stretch, and yet it is everything you could possibly want from a Margaux. Like Beychevelle this year, the 2016 Brane-Cantenac puts recent vintages in the shade, thanks not only to the growing season, but also a new punching down system in their gravity-fed winery that was completed in 2015. The 2016 is a benchmark against which future vintages will be compared.

Adrian van Velsen - vvWine
Deep, cool, complex, delicately spicy, lots of fruit, mineral undertones. The palate is polished, fantastic balance of structure and fruit, the tannins are of the highest quality, incredibly crisp, saline finish. Power and finesse combined. 2025-2048

I love the precision, detail and freshness in this vintage of Brane Cantenac. The tannins are silky, refined and present from the beginning to the finish, but one can barely feel it. A great vintage for Brane Cantenac with its terroir coming through in the wine's complexity, length and intensity of flavors. Bravo!

Andreas Larsson - Tasted
Pure and ripe nose with floral dark fruit, violet, cassis, plum, tobacco, Fine leather and discreet oak. Dense and savoury with grainy tannin, coffee, mocha, light toastiness with crushed black fruit, crème de cassis, and a very long lingering finish with bright freshness and savoury dark fruit with some sage and roasted notes, elegant and powerful. Very good.

Dark color, medium intensity and slightly evolved. Very aromatic, fruity and creamy nose. Soft on the palate, tasty in the middle, with class in the touch, the wine melts on the palate, deep, delicate, tense and tender at the same time. Very great aromatic persistence, with fine grain. It's superb!

Still dark in color, the wine is clearly powerful, with notes of black tea, flowers, dark Cuban cigars, and black cherries. Balanced, fresh, harmonious, long, and rich, there is lift, energy, length, intensity, and purity with a chalky edge to the finish. This is not a wine for today, you need some patience before it shows really well. If you are not familiar with the level of wine coming from Brane Cantenac these days, you should be. Drink from 2030-2060.

This firm, structured wine is solid with tannins and with the weight associated with the vintage. The fruitiness is as important, an explosion of rich berry flavors that will give pleasure as the wine matures.

Falstaff June - 2017
Falstaff
Deep dark ruby, opaque at the core with a discreet brightening on the rim. There are delicate floral aromas in the background to the ripe sweet cherry, blackberry jam and subtle fine oak nuances. Juicy, elegant and fruity with well-integrated tannins and red berry flavours, the wine is minerally and fresh on the palate with a lingering finish and the potential to age well.

Stunning aromatic complexity, herbs, flowers, spices; delicate attack, slow, fruity development, carried by a perfectly balanced, fresh texture, ends deliciously and long. Wonderful wine.

Jancis Robinson January - 2020

Tasted blind. Sweet and easy. Not dramatic but well mannered and all in balance. Inky and very Margaux. Henri Lurton and his sustainable viticulture will presumably be very pleased that his wine was the group's second-favourite Margaux after Ch Margaux in this Southwold tasting.
