I was absolutely charmed with this bottle. The nose was a little muddy, with deep, cooler fruit, pencil shavings, and book binding. On the palate, this leads with graphite, and has muted forest berries. There's also leather and library on the palate. This has nice structure. It's at an ideal place for me with resolved tannin, tons of tertiary development, but it hasn't degraded much yet. Maybe the fruit is starting to go. This lacks the juicier aspect of the '83. It's a little more 'classic,' as they say, and it accordingly lacks the polish of the latter vintage, but it is still very enjoyable!

This shows wonderful finesse. Brick red in color, with a garnet edge. Lovely perfumed aromas of blackberry and chocolate, with a hint of raisin. Medium-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, sweet fruit finish. Drink now or hold.

Ruby red color. Medium intensity. Evolved. Very bright. Nose of medium intensity. Honey note. Animal. Touch of raspberry. Reduced on swirling. Needs to be aerated. Caressing entry on the palate, developing on a smooth and quite rich structure, but lacking density. That said, the flavor evokes smoothness and the wine is almost sweet. Good length. Shame it doesn't have more substance, but it's good!

Brickish rim and orange tinted red core. Initial impression is strongly sweet red fruit but also a minty freshness. Distinctive perfume. Fine density on the palate, wth lively fruit and great energy. Fully resolved though there’s still an attractive dry grip on the finish. Long and fresh on the finsh, maybe just starting to dry a little.

Château Brane Cantenac
Château Brane Cantenac

Château Brane-Cantenac is one of the great names of the Margaux appellation, classified as a Second Grand Cru Classé in the official 1855 classification. Located on the gravelly plateau of Cantenac, in the heart of the Médoc, this wine embodies the elegance, aromatic precision and tannic finesse characteristic of the great wines of Margaux.

The history of the estate dates back to the 18th century, but its modern identity was established in the early 19th century when Baron Jacques-Maxime de Brane acquired the property and gave it his name. Nicknamed at the time the "Napoleon of the vines," he helped elevate the cru among the references of the Médoc. For several generations, the Lurton family has managed the estate, pursuing a constant quest for precision and parcel expression.

The vineyard rests on hillsides of deep gravel mixed with sand and clay, a terroir particularly favorable to Cabernet Sauvignon, the majority grape variety in the blend. This composition gives the wines of Château Brane-Cantenac a straight structure, refined aromatic intensity and a remarkable aging potential.

Vintages such as Château Brane-Cantenac 1989, Château Brane-Cantenac 2000, Château Brane-Cantenac 2005, Château Brane-Cantenac 2009, Château Brane-Cantenac 2016 or Château Brane-Cantenac 2020 illustrate the qualitative consistency of the cru and its essential status among the collectible wines of Margaux.
