Strong gold, copper reflections. Open nose, very intense, almonds, apricots, hazelnut, honey, pine resin, still very youthful, good to very good complexity. On the palate, a soft, full-bodied start, lots of sweetness, very dense but with insufficient acidity, seems sticky, somewhat unharmonious, pleasantly complex with a solid finish but far from great and lacking balance. Naturally, this was also an impressive Sauternes experience due to the ripe vintage, but qualitatively unfortunately no comparison with the recently tasted 1947 Suduiraut. Now until 2050+

From a 375, the color was deep gold with a bit of copper. Light in fruit and sweetness, most of the experience was focused on the secondary elements of caramel, butterscotch, orange rind, molasses and burnt sugar. Very bright and almost too fresh, as well as light in weight, this wine has slipped past its prime and requires drinking much sooner than later

Glowing orange amber. This smells just a little fusty, like my childhood piano teacher’s chenille cloth. A bit dry on the end. Losing fruit. But it improved/cleaned up in the glass – still with some bitterness on the end but a very attractive creamy texture

Château Suduiraut
Château Suduiraut

Château Suduiraut is a Bordeaux wine estate of 200 hectares, including 92 hectares of vineyards in the commune of Preignac on a soil composed mainly of sandy-clay gravel, which produces a sweet white wine. Classified as a Premier Cru of Sauternes, it is considered by many as one of the best Sauternes.

The wines of Château Suduiraut are among the greatest Sauternes. Their longevity is exceptional. As they age, the aromas of candied fruits slowly take over the citrus notes found in the early years. The estate recommends decanting old vintages to enhance the fragrances. The Château also produces a second wine: Castelnau de Suduiraut.
