...Delicious....Several notes with continual references to mocha. Most recently: still very deep but mature looking; coffee, ginger and wholemeal nose with flavour to match. But still tannic.

Christer Byklum : Ruby, brick rim. Cigars, tobacco, dates, anise, liquorice, scented, nuanced, classic, some floral notes nose, bright and detailed. Touch of red currants. Fresh acidity, ripe tannins, cherries, dates, blackcurrants, some blueberries, elegant and nuanced, juicy if leaner, long finish. Bit light finish.

Concentrated. Medium-ruby color, with ripe plum, cigar tobacco and smoke aromas. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long finish. Still closed, almost clumsy.

Light, this seemed older than its true age with its mostly secondary nose, medium body and light, short, red fruit and spicy finish. Drink up.

Very dark blackish crimson. Notably aromatic, even a hint of herbaceousness on this bottle. Lovely balance and spread of mellow aromas. Tannins fully molten. Quite delicate for a 1990. Quite fresh enough on the finish. Subtle with a hint of tarmacadam. Lots of pleasure. Neat.

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse De Lalande

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is a Bordeaux wine estate that produces its grand crus in the Pauillac appellation. It is a second growth classified in the official 1855 classification. Recognizable by its white label with golden writing, the Château is also known for its high quality wine and expertise. Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande also produces a second wine: La Réserve de la Comtesse.

The 45% Cabernet Sauvignon defines the structure, the framework of the wine and gives it its longevity. Recent tastings of old vintages such as 1875, 1893, 1900 have shown, through their surprising youth, the aging potential of Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande wines. 35% Merlot: a surprising percentage, unusual in an appellation that favors Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 12% Cabernet Franc produces a balanced wine with a fruity, firm and clean bouquet in its youth, which blends very well in the blend during aging. The 8% Petit Verdot brings freshness and great aromatic and spicy complexity to the blend. Each year, more than 100 people - often the same families from Andalusia - harvest the estate's grapes according to the degree of ripeness and age of the plots: Merlot, an early-ripening variety, starts the harvest, while Cabernet and Petit Verdot, late-ripening varieties, close it.
