Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Tasted at the Fine Wine Experience’s Pichon-Lalande vertical in London. A very deep garnet/purple hue. It has a glorious, almost opulent nose with black cherries, blueberries, a hint of sous-bois, pine and freshly rolled tobacco, a touch of tar coming through all with wonderful definition although there is still a little unresolved new oak. The palate is medium-bodied with good weight, very well balanced, a sense of controlled opulence here. Lots of glycerine, this is almost as good as the 2005. Silky smooth, almost Burgundian on the finish. A supreme success for the vintage and a must-buy. Outstanding. Drink 2012-2030. Tasted December 2008.

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse De Lalande

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande, located in Pauillac in the heart of Médoc, is one of the most emblematic Second Grand Cru Classé of the 1855 classification. Founded in the 17th century and lastingly marked by the figure of Virginie de Pichon Longueville, Comtesse de Lalande, the estate stands today as an essential reference among the great wines of Bordeaux.

Located on deep gravel ridges resting on a clay-marl base, in close proximity to the Gironde estuary, the vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir and a microclimate particularly favorable to the maturity of Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine combines power, precision and elegance, in a style recognized for its finesse and aging capacity.

Property of the Rouzaud family since 2007, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande continues a demanding quality policy, committed to an environmental approach certified HVE and in conversion to organic farming since 2021. Parcel-based vinifications and the use of a gravity-flow vat room allow to preserve the pure expression of the Pauillac terroir.

Vintages such as Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 1982, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 1986, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 1994, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 1996, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2000, Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 2009, illustrate the qualitative consistency and remarkable aging potential of this great Pauillac wine, particularly sought after by enthusiasts and collectors of rare wines.
