Strong, dark ruby garnet, ochre rim. On the nose, ripe, sweet plum fruit, vanilla, fine biscuit, some plum jam. On the palate, juicy, complex texture, ripe fig fruit, opulent, rather subtle acid structure, long since ready to drink, round and fruity, silky tannins, offers great drinking pleasure.

Voluptuous and velvety. Dark ruby color. Intense aromas of blackberries, fresh mushrooms and dried herbs. Full-bodied, with loads of ripe fruit and velvety tannins. A big, youthful wine that needs time to mellow.

Very intense flavours with layers of herbs, sweet spices and firm tannins. Wonderful structure and long finish. Gorgeous flavour profile and linear focus in this wine.

Beautiful dark ruby color. Ripe, rich, full-bodied nose. Dense, fat. Well-ripened red fruits, undergrowth. The tannins are well integrated. A very fine example of great Pauillac.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Elegant, medium-bodied, refined, soft and silky, the wine lives in the intersection between secondary notes of tobacco, cedar chest, peppery herbs, cigar box and red currants. Popped and poured, this is slightly past its peak, so if you are sitting on any bottles, it is time to drink up.

Tasted decanted and blind. Dark red color, medium intensity and already very evolved. The nose smells of ripe fruits, vanilla and presents a deep character. Tender, caressing and fruity palate. The wine takes on a note of ink and meat in the mid-palate. It rounds out before finishing flavorful, long with taste, aroma and tannins already very melted.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Tasted at the Chapon Fin restaurant in Bordeaux. This is a far better bottle than the one encountered last year and bore semblances to my more positive encounters several years ago. Here, the 1989 has that lovely bouquet of black fruits, black tea and loam, that blossoms from the glass with continued aeration. The palate has very well balanced, the tannins having mellowed in recent years with tobacco and mushroom towards the finish. This just has much more vigour than I anticipated, much more cohesion. Very fine indeed. A point.

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse De Lalande

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is a Bordeaux wine estate that produces its grand crus in the Pauillac appellation. It is a second growth classified in the official 1855 classification. Recognizable by its white label with golden writing, the Château is also known for its high quality wine and expertise. Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande also produces a second wine: La Réserve de la Comtesse.

The 45% Cabernet Sauvignon defines the structure, the framework of the wine and gives it its longevity. Recent tastings of old vintages such as 1875, 1893, 1900 have shown, through their surprising youth, the aging potential of Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande wines. 35% Merlot: a surprising percentage, unusual in an appellation that favors Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 12% Cabernet Franc produces a balanced wine with a fruity, firm and clean bouquet in its youth, which blends very well in the blend during aging. The 8% Petit Verdot brings freshness and great aromatic and spicy complexity to the blend. Each year, more than 100 people - often the same families from Andalusia - harvest the estate's grapes according to the degree of ripeness and age of the plots: Merlot, an early-ripening variety, starts the harvest, while Cabernet and Petit Verdot, late-ripening varieties, close it.
