Cellar Tracker March - 2024

From the moment the cork is delicately removed, a symphony of aromas envelops the senses, unveiling layers of complexity that speak of its noble lineage. The bouquet unfolds with a flourish of ripe blackcurrants, intertwined with subtle hints of cedar, leather, and a whisper of tobacco leaf. Each inhalation is a dance of opulence, a testament to the meticulous craftsmanship that has gone into the creation of this masterpiece. Upon the palate, the wine unfurls with a grace befitting of a seasoned explorer navigating uncharted territories. Velvety tannins caress the tongue, carrying with them flavors of dark cherries, plums, and a touch of graphite that evokes visions of distant mountain peaks shrouded in mist. There is a sense of wanderlust in every drop, a longing for the unknown that beckons one to venture deeper into its depths.

Slightly tough, but a damn nice glass of red. Ruby-garnet in color, with tobacco, cedar and fruit aromas and flavors. Medium- to full-bodied with full, velvety tannins and ripe fruit. Will improve with age.

This tea colored wine is filled with smoke, cigar box, tobacco leaf, cedar wood, olive and earthy scents. Medium bodied and starting to drop its fruit, this classic style of Pichon Lalande requires consumption sooner than later.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
This wine reached full maturity early and has taken on an increasing amount of amberorange. It exhibits a dusty, herbaceous side as it sits in the glass. Although the wine is beginning to dry out, it is still an excellent claret, with classic, cedary, curranty fruit, combined with herbs and spices. Medium-bodied, with some sweetness on the attack, the wine narrows out and tastes more compressed and compact after it sits in the glass for 5-10 minutes.

Sadly a musty bottle of Rehoboam with a dusty, dry finish. While the age of the wine could be the culprit for the evolved, dried flavors, there was a distinct musty, unclean edge. Other bottles of this wine in normal 750ml were much better.

Remarkably good for a '75 -rich, flavoury, full of fruit, its tannin completely submerged.

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse De Lalande

Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande is a Bordeaux wine estate that produces its grand crus in the Pauillac appellation. It is a second growth classified in the official 1855 classification. Recognizable by its white label with golden writing, the Château is also known for its high quality wine and expertise. Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande also produces a second wine: La Réserve de la Comtesse.

The 45% Cabernet Sauvignon defines the structure, the framework of the wine and gives it its longevity. Recent tastings of old vintages such as 1875, 1893, 1900 have shown, through their surprising youth, the aging potential of Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande wines. 35% Merlot: a surprising percentage, unusual in an appellation that favors Cabernet Sauvignon.

The 12% Cabernet Franc produces a balanced wine with a fruity, firm and clean bouquet in its youth, which blends very well in the blend during aging. The 8% Petit Verdot brings freshness and great aromatic and spicy complexity to the blend. Each year, more than 100 people - often the same families from Andalusia - harvest the estate's grapes according to the degree of ripeness and age of the plots: Merlot, an early-ripening variety, starts the harvest, while Cabernet and Petit Verdot, late-ripening varieties, close it.
