Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
This great terroir a few miles from Haut Brion and La Mission Haut Brion has produced one of the superstars of the vintage. A blend of 55% Merlot and 45% Cabernet Sauvignon, Pape Clement’s 2005 has an opaque purple color and smoky barbecue and chocolaty notes intermixed with cassis and blackberries. There is also some underlying minerality in this full-bodied, super-concentrated wine, which has wonderfully sweet, well-integrated tannins. This majestic, multidimensional wines is one of the great, great wines of the vintage. It should drink well for at least another 25 years.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
What most people miss with Pape Clement, is that the wine is so concentrated, intense and a bit oaky in its youth, it needs cellaring time to really reveal its all. Still youthful here, another 5-7 years are needed before everything really starts coming together. Still, it is impossible not to see and enjoy the intensity, purity, depth of flavor, length and richness. The tannins are ripe, the texture is akin to velvet and the smoky, dark berries in the finish resonate for ages. Opened in the name of science, I'm waiting another 5 years before popping another bottle.

Dark in color, offering wonderful aromas of licorice, berry, fresh tobacco and currant, with Indian spices. Complex and full-bodied, with supersilky tannins that caress every inch of the palate. Long and satisfying. A joy to taste this young wine.

Dark, intense color. Intense and above all original nose, fresh, fruity, smoky and deep. Soft on the attack, suave in development, particularly fruity in the mid-palate, tasty and fatty, the wine finishes long, complex, with slightly strong nuances of wood in the finish, but it is very long and spicy. Rich and very complete wine for the vintage.

Much more cassis and clear, plump, ripe berry fruit, with a touch of chocolate and more of that smoky, mineral and lightly spicy refinement. On the palate it is beautifully cool and composed, with searing acidity cutting through big, smooth tannins that give plenty of roughening grip. The structure is excellent, the fruit all there, and this shows huge promise.

Deep dark ruby ??garnet, almost black core, violet reflections, fine berry confit on the nose, delicate coffee notes, dark, sweet fruit, ripe nuances. Very full-bodied on the palate, elegant and minerally, firm tannin core, fine nougat in the aftertaste, sticks very well, leaves a very good impression, promising storage potential, Vin de Garde.

Adrian van Velsen - vvWine
Deep, very fragrant, very Bordeaux, dark fruit, stone, ethereal notes, dried herbs, barrique aromas. Lots of pressure on the palate, concentrated but not overloaded, fine tannins, well-integrated acidity. Very long finish. Perhaps a little Tuscan, but good quality.

Lustrous blackish garnet. Some evolution at the rim. Light floral fragrance. Then opulent fruit on the front palate with the merest suggestion of brett. Lots of flattery and fun with the tannins well in retreat. Slightly hot and sudden on the end. Not top drawer but very satisfactory.
