Château Leoville Poyferre

The Château of Léoville Poyferré is a second classified growth of Médoc classification in 1855.

During the reign of Louis XIII in 1638, Master John Moytié, ennobled bourgeois Bordeaux and adviser to the Parliament of Bordeaux, had planted a vineyard on a mountain of graves near the river. This place earned the name "Mount Moytié" according to the use of time to designate a place by the name of its owner. Mount Moytié was part of the first historic growths of the Medoc, all born before the Fronde (1648-1653). The Médoc was giving birth to her first parish estates. This beautiful wine from the old Leoville estate north of St. Julien is one of the best terroirs of the appellation and surely the richest of the second growths.

The 80 hectares planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot and 2% Cabernet Franc, give a deep, rich wine.  The Chateau Leoville Poyferre produces elegant wines, very fine, balanced and complex, intense color, and velvety texture, and is disposed to have a very good aging potential.
