Jean-Marc Quarin November - 2005

Tasted numerous times at the restaurant in 2005, this is a very pleasant wine on the nose and palate. It has a lovely balance with presence on the attack, in the middle and especially on the finish, without being very full-bodied. I consider it completely ready to drink. It was the best wine of the evening and yet the least expensive!

At age 12, this is tasting mature with its tobacco, mushroom and earthy, cassis and cranberry driven personality. Medium bodied, this lighter style of St, Julien will offer the most pleasure over the next 5-7 years.

Falstaff March - 2015
Falstaff
Strong ruby garnet, delicate ochre reflections, broader rim lightening. Forest berry compote underlaid with herbal spice, some sea buckthorn, cranberries and currants, tobacco-like nuance. Medium-weight, rather red berry and fresh on the palate, subtle tannins, accessible style, an uncomplicated food companion.

Delicious red. Plenty of plum and blackberry character on the nose. Medium-bodied, with light silky tannins and a delicate, fruity finish.

Château Leoville Poyferre
Château Leoville Poyferre

Château Léoville Poyferré is a Bordeaux wine estate. Under the Saint Julien appellation, it is classified as a second growth in the official 1855 Médoc wine classification.

During the reign of Louis XIII, in 1638, Master Jean de Moytié, an ennobled Bordeaux bourgeois and counselor to the Parliament of Bordeaux, owned a vineyard planted on a gravel hill near the River. This gave the place the name "Mont-Moytié", following the custom of the time to designate a place by the name of its owner. The Mont-Moytié cru was part of these first historical growths of the Médoc, all born before the Fronde (1648-1653). The Médoc was then giving birth to its first parish growths.

This beautiful vineyard, originating from the former Léoville estate in northern Saint-Julien, is one of the best terroirs of the appellation and certainly the richest of the second growths. The 80 hectares planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc produce a deep and rich wine.

Château Léoville Poyferré produces elegant, very fine, balanced, and complex wines with intense color and velvety texture, which have excellent aging potential.
