Dense color. Deep nose, developing harmonious fragrances of black fruit and notes of oak. Very concentrated palate, very expressive and elegant too. A regular quality, confirmed again this year.

Intense color. Very aromatic nose, with ripe and spicy fruit. Tender, fruity, savory and pleasant palate, with presence between the middle and the finish. Good length. Ready to drink. When to drink: 2013 to 2030.

Beautifully dense, this generous, rich wine combines great fruit with a firm but sweet structure. The new wood element is still prominent, but this is now beginning to blend well with the ripe fruit. To finish, the tannins reassert themselves.

Great quality, classic but a little less generous at this point in its life than the 2005 that precedes it. Liqourice root, raspberry leaf, smoked earth, cassis, bilberry, all those tight smooth-skinned high-acidity autumn fruits. Great potential, and sings its St Julien tune to perfection but remains a little austere right now. Harvest September 21 to October 7. 80% new oak. When to drink: 2021 to 2040

A little coffee and a little gamy character, with some complexity here. Solid black fruit too. On the palate real class here, with the fruit very sweet and naturally concentrated, with life about it and an edge of bittersweetness. Beautifully managed tannins, with a lovely balance and elegance. Long.

Chewy tannins, crisp fruit and the structure to age, the wine is tannic and clearly demands time before its firm, Cabernet Sauvignon character can soften and come together. Give it at least 5-10 more years, or a few hours in the decanter before popping a bottle

Château Leoville Poyferre
Château Leoville Poyferre

Château Léoville Poyferré is a Bordeaux wine estate. Under the Saint Julien appellation, it is classified as a second growth in the official 1855 Médoc wine classification.

During the reign of Louis XIII, in 1638, Master Jean de Moytié, an ennobled Bordeaux bourgeois and counselor to the Parliament of Bordeaux, owned a vineyard planted on a gravel hill near the River. This gave the place the name "Mont-Moytié", following the custom of the time to designate a place by the name of its owner. The Mont-Moytié cru was part of these first historical growths of the Médoc, all born before the Fronde (1648-1653). The Médoc was then giving birth to its first parish growths.

This beautiful vineyard, originating from the former Léoville estate in northern Saint-Julien, is one of the best terroirs of the appellation and certainly the richest of the second growths. The 80 hectares planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 8% Petit Verdot, and 2% Cabernet Franc produce a deep and rich wine.

Château Léoville Poyferré produces elegant, very fine, balanced, and complex wines with intense color and velvety texture, which have excellent aging potential.
