If multiple bottles are in stock, the photo is non-contractual and illustrates the condition of the bottle.

2000 is both a mythical year for its vintage, but also for the quality of the wines. The 2000 vintage at Château Haut Brion had a mild start to the year, followed by a very rainy and hot spring and then a dry and scorching summer. September was in unison, hot and dry, which allowed a harvest at the Château in optimal conditions.
Château Haut Brion 2000 reveals a certain complexity in its aromas, the woodiness of finely polished oak, the puree of blackberries, cherry stone, a touch of blackcurrant, the bitter sweetness of mango. The tannins of this Premier Cru Classé are very soft and its finish is endless... It is an exceptional bottle, to drink today, like tomorrow and probably for 100 years.

This is well-endowed with a large core of fig, blackberry and black currant fruit that has light mulling spice, bay and tobacco nuances peeking out, while the tarry finish cuts a broad and deep swath. Obvious heft, but the elegance wins out in the end, with a lilting sandalwood and sweet tobacco—infused finish that just sails on and on.

Lovely gamey nose, pure black fruit, savoury but not as dense as the other vintages seem – more forgiving, more drinkable.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Elegant, refined, regal and harmonious, the wine takes a while to unfurl, allowing to experience its beauty. But once it gets going, the sensual experience is almost off the charts. The smoky fruit builds in intensity. The tannins are silky. There is length, complexity and purity. While a pleasure to drink today with a few hours of decanting, another 5-10 years will add a lot to this wine.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Tasted from an ex-château bottle in Bordeaux, I was not surprised to find the 2000 Château Haut-Brion flirting with perfection. The nose is simply breathtaking - quintessential Haut-Brion with ebullient red berry fruit, roasted herbs, gravel, terracotta tiles on a warm summer's day...it is simply wave after wave of intoxicating scents that could bring even the most stoic person to tears of joy. The palate displays heavenly balance, pitch-perfect acidity, perhaps spicier than previous bottles that I have tasted, and what depth and dimension in this outstanding wine. That hint of graphite on the finish is a cheeky nod to Pauillac, as if to thumb its nose at the First Growths, because alongside Château Latour, almost by stealth, the Haut-Brion is one of the greatest Bordeaux in this millennial year.

Château Haut Brion
Château Haut Brion

Château Haut-Brion is one of the most iconic wines of Bordeaux. In 1855, it received the supreme distinction of First Growth, an exceptional recognition as it is the only non-Médoc estate to appear in the classification of Médoc wines, while also being classified as Graves Classified Growth. Today it is an absolute reference of the Pessac-Léognan appellation.

Its terroir, similar to that of Château Latour, gives Haut-Brion wines a unique nobility. Without seeking extreme power, the wine distinguishes itself through its elegance, the finesse of its tannins and a remarkable aging capacity, often considered one of the greatest in Bordeaux.

Château Haut-Brion is the oldest, and also the smallest in surface area, of the Bordeaux First Growths, alongside Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Latour, Château Margaux and Château Mouton Rothschild. While the presence of vines in the region dates back to Roman times, the first written mention of the vineyard dates from 1423. The estate was founded in 1525 by Jean de Pontac and quickly gained international renown. Its reputation was such that it participated in the very birth of the notion of Grand Cru, mentioned as early as 1663 by Samuel Pepys in his famous diary. More recently, the estate belonged to Clarence Douglas Dillon, former U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, further contributing to its prestige.

Among the most iconic vintages of Château Haut-Brion are: Château Haut-Brion 1928, Château Haut-Brion 1945, Château Haut-Brion 1953, Château Haut-Brion 1959, Château Haut-Brion 1961, Château Haut-Brion 1982, Château Haut-Brion 1990, Château Haut-Brion 1995 and Château Haut-Brion 2000.
