The 1997 Grand-Puy-Ducasse is dark ruby-colored, with a sweet black fruit-scented nose intermixed with weedy scents, vanilla, and earth. The mid-palate is plump and round, but the wine displays an abrupt finish with a certain austerity and angularity. This offering requires more flesh and concentration to merit a higher score. Château Grand Puy Ducasse is a 40-hectare wine estate located in Pauillac, Gironde. The vineyard is spread over three plots situated on the best terroirs of Pauillac. Château Grand Puy Ducasse is ranked among the fifth growth in the official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification.

The best wines from Château Grand Puy Ducasse are the 1945 wines and 1947, the 1949 wines, 1959 great growths, the 1961 and 1967 vintages. The 1975 vintages, 1982 and 1985 are particularly successful. Finally, the 1995 wines, 1998 and 2000 vintages, as well as the 2009 classified growths are considered exceptional years.
