This is the distinctive property owned by the Gonet-Médeville family who have been growing vines in Sauternes for three centuries this year. Unlike the other sweet white bordeaux estates, they age the wine in concrete rather than oak and release it only after many years' ageing. Crème de Tête, their best wine, is made only in exceptional vintages and this certainly tasted exceptional. Deep rich tawny in colour is was incredibly rich with strong notes of caramel, almost burnt caramel, and rose petals too. There was quite enough acidity to keep the wine in balance and make a delightful whole even if it is perhaps not quite a complex as Yquem, say.

Château Gilette

Château Gilette is a Bordeaux wine estate. A 4.5-hectare property located in the heart of the village of Preignac. Château Gilette is a small Sauternes cru legendary for its old vintages. In the Sauternes appellation, it exclusively produces sweet white wines described as being the fruitiest in the Sauternes region. The grape varieties harvested there are (90%), (8%) and (2%). The harvest is done manually and the vines are approximately 40 years old.

The best vintages of Château Gilette are 1929, the 1959 vintage, the 1967 wines, 1987 crus and the 1989 vintage. Finally, the 1990 vintage is particularly excellent.
