Expert's opinions
(3-2010) Very rich and exciting. Deep flavoured with lots of acidity still in evidence. The last wine tasted in this remarkable array of talent and consistency.

Clearly, it is the Cabernet Sauvignon from the gravels that made this wine possible. Medium bodied, not exactly strict, but it's not going to be called opulent either. Here, you find a straight ahead, classic character with tobacco, cedar, wet earth and red cherries. There is a firm character on the palate and in the finish that is also, refined, and genteel. Fully mature, this requires drinking over the next decade or so

Bordeaux red color. Blood. Evolved toward vermillion. Medium intensity. Medium intensity nose. Not very expressive. Very closed when swirled. Clean and soft attack developing on a straight-structured, medium-bodied frame that evolves very juicily on flavorful tannins, very present, initially fine but the finish is slightly grippy. It lingers with a slight dryness.

I am wondering whether I have underestimated the 1986 Figeac given the performance of this bottle, which was far superior to anything encountered previously. It has a compelling, almost Saint Julien-like nose with truffle and leather. It is not intense, but it is certainly full of personality. The palate is medium-bodied with fine acidity; foursquare and conservative, but balanced. It does not possess enormous length and one can still argue that its Cabernet component ought to have bestowed the finest Saint Emilion in a vintage that did not favor the Merlot-based commune. Nevertheless, this remains thoroughly enjoyable and shows class.

Château informations
Château Figeac is a Bordeaux wine estate located in the commune of Saint Emilion. Premier Grand Cru Classé of the official Saint-Emilion classification, it is one of the most influential châteaux of the appellation. The Château also produces a second wine: La Grange Neuve de Figeac.
Château Figeac wines have excellent aging potential.
The finest achievements are the 1961 vintage, 1982, the 1985 wines, grand crus from 1986. More recent Château Figeac vintages show more power, roundness and fruity notes, the 2000 vintage, the 2005 wines and 2009 are spectacular.
