❤️ Guide Vert 2024 Coup de Cœur: The only cuvée from the domaine to include carignan in its blend, La Maison Jaune is a pure expression of the Faugères schist — a wine with notes of cistus and rosemary and slender tannins. A beautiful achievement for this 2020.

Domaine Bardi d'Alquier
Domaine Bardi d'Alquier

The Domaine Bardi d'Alquier, formerly Domaine Jean-Michel Alquier, took this name in 2018 when Sophie and Thibaud Bardi de Fourtou took over. Established at the heart of the village of Faugères since 1870, the Alquier family has shaped, vintage after vintage, a demanding and singular vision of this Hérault terroir that few estates in France can express with such depth.

The modern history of the estate begins in 1962, when Gilbert Alquier planted the first mass-selection syrahs on his schist hillsides in the appellation — syrahs of Rhône origin, at a time when the Languedoc was still betting on high-yield grape varieties. His son Jean-Michel then built, over forty years of uncompromising standards, a national and international reputation that elevated the estate to two-star status in the Revue du Vin de France. Sophie and Thibaud Bardi de Fourtou continue along this path with the same rigour.

The twelve-hectare vineyard, planted at 340 metres altitude on schist soils within the Parc naturel régional du Haut-Languedoc, is certified organic. The flagship cuvée, Grandes Bastides, is produced in very limited quantities only in the vintages that merit it, aged twenty-four months in barrels, intended for cellaring fifteen to twenty years. Vintages such as 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022 rank among the most accomplished and most sought-after from the estate.
