Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Orange zest, brown spices, and peach preserves in the nose of Deiss’s darkened brass-hued 2006 Altenberg de Bergheim usher in an opulently rich, expansive, yet palpably high-extract palate, on which ethereal inner-mouth expressions of honeyed botrytis emerge, and pronounced sweetness compliments impressions of orange marmalade, peach preserves, and nougat. Yet beneath all of this almost gaudy richness lies a sense of chalk – which many will associated with the site – and for all of its viscosity and sheer sweetness, this finishes with reverberative length thanks to its spice and zest. Here is one of those rare 2006s that deserves long-term cellaring, certainly a decade at least.

Revista Adega : Good balance between acidity and sweetness, very ripe white fruits, and notes of honey and citrus on the finish. Improves with longer aging. Shows great structure, complexity, and depth.

Marcel Deiss

Domaine Marcel Deiss is one of the most emblematic and unique estates in Alsace wine country, renowned for its deeply terroir-focused vision and its unique interpretation of great Alsatian wines. Located in Bergheim, in the heart of Haut-Rhin, the estate has established itself over several decades as an essential reference for understanding the expression of Alsatian soils at the highest level.

The vineyard extends over approximately 32 hectares, a large part of which is classified as Alsace Grand Cru, with emblematic plots such as Altenberg de Bergheim, Schoenenbourg, Engelgarten and Mambourg. Unlike the traditional approach centered on grape variety, Marcel Deiss favors a parcel-based and geological reading of wine, emphasizing terroir above all else.

The estate is managed using organic and biodynamic agriculture, a long-standing committed practice aimed at preserving the natural balance of the soils and the vitality of the vines. Plantings are often carried out in field blends, combining several grape varieties on the same plot in order to more faithfully express the identity of the terroir.

The wines of Domaine Marcel Deiss are distinguished by their depth, complexity and great aging potential. Outstanding vintages such as Domaine Marcel Deiss 2006, Domaine Marcel Deiss 2020, Domaine Marcel Deiss 2008, Domaine Marcel Deiss 2015, Domaine Marcel Deiss 2022. illustrate the consistency and quality ambition of the estate, which has become an absolute reference for lovers of great Alsatian wines.
