Information on the vintage 1975:
Despite being pronounced optimistically a vin de garde ...in 1976, the wines have turned out to be irregular; indeed for some time now it has been a controversial vintage. Unquestionably better than the three preceding vintages and certainly interesting, not to say challenging.

Clos Fourtet

Clos Fourtet is a premier grand cru classé B from Saint-Emilion.

Located at the gates of the medieval town, Clos Fourtet owes its name to “Camp Fourtet”, a fortified place which served to protect Saint-Emilion in the Middle Ages. Today, Clos Fourtet has nearly 18.7 hectares of vines. Its terroir is naturally drained with clay-limestone soil. The vines are 25 years old on average. The harvest takes place in the great winemaking traditions with hand-harvesting, while respecting the environment with the use of organic fertilizers. The grape variety is made up of 85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc.

The director of Clos Fourtet is Philippe Cuvelier. Striving to preserve the identity of this terroir, Philippe Cuvelier has invested a lot to improve in quality.
