Nearing the end of its active life but this is one of the best 1981s I have tasted from anywhere, still vibrant in 2009. Fully developed ruby and only medium bodied but with lovely elegance and harmony. Lighter than the Pomerol norm with some dustiness but no shortage of fruit.

Château Certan De May
The Certan de May vineyard, one of the highest in the appellation, is adjacent to Petrus. The Certan de May vineyard is composed of old vines, with an average age of thirty years, planted on clay-gravel soil. Harvested late and thus benefiting from the full maturity of the grapes, this Pomerol proves to be of a very high standard. Its well-balanced, rich and complex wines combine woody and fruity aromas (cherries, blackcurrant,... ). The aging potential is impressive in great vintages.
