Tasted at Pebbles/Zachy’s 1982 dinner in Hong Kong. This is the first time that I have encountered this legendary 1982 Pomerol and all I can say is yes, yes and YES! The perfume immediately informs you that the praise is justified, unfurling with gorgeous violet and black truffle aromas. There is real minerality here and wonderful poise. The palate is very well balanced: quite stern and aloof at the beginning but there is great fruit intensity and minerality that underpins this Certan-de-May. There is a sense of effortless harmony and refinement on the meaty, ferrous finish that is utterly seductive. This is a just a beautiful Pomerol, though I agree with “RP” that it has the substance of vivacity to go on and on and on. Magnificent! Tasted November 2012.

The Certan de May vineyard, one of the highest in the appellation, is adjacent to Petrus. The Certan de May vineyard is composed of old vines, with an average age of thirty years, planted on clay-gravel soil. Harvested late and thus benefiting from the full maturity of the grapes, this Pomerol proves to be of a very high standard. Its well-balanced, rich and complex wines combine woody and fruity aromas (cherries, blackcurrant,... ). The aging potential is impressive in great vintages.
