The nose is elegant and offers power, a certain finesse, complexity as well as a certain strength. There are notes of ripe raspberry, ripe blackberry and more lightly juicy blackcurrant combined with small touches of Sichuan pepper, violet, tea as well as very fine hints of spices/exotic spices, mushroom and discreet hints of caramelization. The palate is fruity, balanced, elegant and offers beautiful juiciness, a beautiful juicy/tangy framework, tension, amplitude, silkiness, finesse, a certain richness, indulgence, freshness, a beautiful fineness of grain as well as complexity. On the palate this wine expresses notes of juicy/tangy blackcurrant, juicy/tangy raspberry and more lightly small red berries combined with fine hints of sweet tobacco and undergrowth/mushroom. Good perseverance.

Developed rim on ruby. Scented and full of minerals. Rather straight backed and upright. Lovely sweetness and delicacy with the tannins completely retreated. Not sickly sweet like some of the more made-up Margaux but a great classic claret that is only medium, even quite lightweight and finishes dry. This doesn’t have that much more to give but it is utterly charming.

Château Beychevelle

Château Beychevelle is one of the most iconic estates in the Saint-Julien appellation, on the left bank of Bordeaux. Classified as a Fourth Grand Cru Classé in 1855, it has embodied for several centuries a distinctive style that is both elegant, balanced and deeply Médoc in character. Its name, derived from the legend of "Baisse-Voile" (Lower Sail), directly references its majestic location on the banks of the Gironde and its historical role in Bordeaux river trade.

The Château Beychevelle vineyard extends over approximately 90 hectares, planted predominantly with Cabernet Sauvignon, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a small proportion of Petit Verdot. The deep gravel soils, typical of Saint-Julien, ensure optimal drainage and promote regular maturation, contributing to the consistent quality of the growth.

Beychevelle wines are distinguished by their harmony, silky texture and aromatic finesse, combining black fruits, spicy notes and a subtly oaked touch. Capable of evolving gracefully over several decades, they rank among the classic references of the Médoc. Vintages such as Château Beychevelle 1947, Château Beychevelle 1967, Château Beychevelle 1989, Château Beychevelle 1983, Château Beychevelle 1986, Château Beychevelle 2005, perfectly illustrate the consistency and aging potential of this great wine.
