Like some '99s, it's a bit leaner than the '00s or '98s, but it's well-made, with youthful exuberance of ripe fruit, toasted oak, grilled meat, smoked chestnuts and blood orange, ironlike notes.

Pepper, Provencal herbs, barnyard, earth, licorice and black cherry notes, lead to a medium/full bodied wine that is close to fully mature. Soft in texture, and open , the wine ended with a clean, bright, spicy, cherry finish.

The latest Beaucastel has an inviting nose filled with sweet, juicy fruit; raspberry and blackcurrant and a sweetness of cooked summer fruits. Smooth, spicy palate has a lovely weight of fruit with a nice combination of elegance and power. Good concentration and fine balance. An excellent Beaucastel and one for laying down.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The prodigious 1999 Beaucastel boasts aromas of blackberry fruit intermixed with cassis, licorice, roasted meats, leather, and truffles. While it does not possess much fat or precociousness, it displays definition and elegance. This is a full-bodied, concentrated, classic Beaucastel.

Château de Beaucastel
Château de Beaucastel

Château de Beaucastel is a wine estate located in Courthezon, a commune near Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Vaucluse department. The château is a reference in Rhône wines. Château de Beaucastel spans over 130 hectares of vineyards. Three-quarters are cultivated under the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation and the rest under the Côtes-du-Rhône appellation.

Respecting winemaking traditions, the château exclusively harvests by hand. The grapes are carefully sorted upon arrival at the cellar, and only the finest grapes will be vinified.

All grape varieties are vinified separately, each having its own character and aromas: Grenache and Cinsault provide warmth, color and smoothness, Mourvèdre, Syrah, Muscardin and Vaccarèse contribute solidity, longevity and a very distinct taste, and finally Counoise and Picpoul bring freshness and unique bouquets of aromas.

The meticulous work of the Perrin family is different each year and determines the quality, originality and specificity of each vintage. This marriage is the culmination of months of effort, care, and loving attention at every moment. It is the expression of a terroir in a specific year.
