Gilbert & Gaillard March - 2012
Gilbert & Gaillard
Intense hue with crimson nuances. Focused, endearing black fruit nose aromatics on first pour with well-integrated, subtle oak. Full, supple entry with refined tannins. More linear finish with drier, lightly toasted oak presence.

Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux September - 2024
Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux
Love this wine, I drink it regularly at home, and it always performs excellently in blind tastings, delivering so much of what we love about Pauillac. Ruby red colour, still vibrant, full of silky black fruits, pencil lead and mint leaf, revs up through the mid palate with layers of bilberry, cassis, slate and crushed rocks. You will get longer-lasting Pauillac 2009s, but this is thoroughly enjoyable and built to share.

La Revue du Vin de France January - 2011
La Revue du Vin de France
RVF Magazine After a fine run of vintages, the 2009 is remarkable, combining distinction and depth. Well-defined by its Cabernet Sauvignon (74%), we appreciate its sap and beautifully defined fruit, all with length. A quality/price ratio to watch closely, as it should age remarkably well.

Showing much better than it did just a few years ago, the wine has added a lot of weight and character. Now you find loads of cassis, black currants, leafy herbs, tobacco, and pepper nuances. Rich and with ample depth, the wine looks like it has a solid future.

Wine Enthusiast January - 2012

Smooth black currant fruit with great density as well as superripeness. The wine is charming, while still having a powerful structure. Still a relative value in Pauillac, Batailley is now showing real class.

Wine Spectator March - 2012

A chewy core of black currant, tobacco and roasted apple wood stretches out through the grip-framed finish. Fresh acidity rides underneath to keep it all lively. A solid version, with a throwback hint.

Jancis Robinson March - 2019

Earthy, mushroomy, truffley notes on the nose, as well as stewed bramble fruits and a fine vein of leafy character too. Quite understated in terms of its flavour range – perhaps only just reaching its drinking window.

Château Batailley
Château Batailley

Château Batailley is a Bordeaux wine estate. In the Pauillac AOC, it is classified as a 5th Grand Cru Classé in the official 1855 Médoc wine classification, and is one of the jewels of the Castéja family and Borie-Manoux. The name of this property comes from the word Battle which took place in 1453 on the vineyards and the Château. This was the Hundred Years' War.

During this war, the French recaptured Château Latour, which was occupied by the English and marked the end of British rule in Aquitaine. In the 17th century, vines were planted on these historically rich lands. The Château's park was designed in the 19th century by Barillet-Deschamps, Napoleon III's landscape architect. Château Batailley is a classic Pauillac, with a dark ruby color, well-structured and pronounced blackcurrant notes.

The best vintages of Château Batailley are 1959, 1982. The 2000 vintage and the 2009 wines are excellent. Finally, the 1990 grand crus classés and 2005 grand crus are particularly exceptional.
