Expert's opinions

Information on the vintage 1966 white Bordeaux: 3/5 A return to better times vintage-wise, but still a difficult Sauternes market. An unusually cool dry summer with no real warmth until September, resulting in wines with lean, firm and sinewy character.

Still life in this 45 year old but notably past its prime and reaching the last chapter of its drinking window. Decent cork and acceptable fill level - further indications of the suitability of our cellar for long term aging. A blend of Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc. Dark caramel or weak tea in colour. Still flavorful but lacking that apricot nectar sweetness, rather, more weak tea and moderate almond nut flavor with very subdued honey and hints of citrus.

Château Suduiraut
Château Suduiraut

Château Suduiraut is a Bordeaux wine estate of 200 hectares, including 92 hectares of vineyards in the commune of Preignac on a soil composed mainly of sandy-clay gravel, which produces a sweet white wine. Classified as a Premier Cru of Sauternes, it is considered by many as one of the best Sauternes.

The wines of Château Suduiraut are among the greatest Sauternes. Their longevity is exceptional. As they age, the aromas of candied fruits slowly take over the citrus notes found in the early years. The estate recommends decanting old vintages to enhance the fragrances. The Château also produces a second wine: Castelnau de Suduiraut.
