Readers should keep an eye out for Lafon-Rochet, one of the emerging stars of St.-Estephe. Beginning with the 1994 vintage, the stricter selection and dedication of the Tesseron family are pushing this wine into a higher qualitative category. Moreover, prices for Lafon-Rochet remain low! A spicy, green pepper, vegetal component detracted from this dark, opaque-colored wine. While it possesses hard tannin, there is also plenty of fruit (especially for a 1993). The wine is likely to dry out quickly, but those who like a rough and tumble style of Bordeaux with plenty of guts and muscle, are advised that this wine represents a good value.

Bright red color, medium intensity. Clean nose, of medium intensity, vanilla. Vegetal note, then cherry. Touch of alcohol to the agitation. Soft and fruity attack, developing on a round, rather juicy structure, which evolves into increasingly tight tannins and which leave a slightly dry finish, even if there is some fruit beforehand.
