Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 1979 is another full-flavored, robust wine from Haut-Bages-Liberal. Quite dark ruby, with an appealing ripe cassis, spicy bouquet, and a full-bodied, meaty texture, this wine has high acidity and enough tannin to warrant cellaring. Neither refined nor elegant, it is robust, rustic, and straightforward.

Château Haut Bages Liberal
Haut Bages Liberal, a fifth growth, owns a splendid parcel very close to Château Latour and disperses the rest of its vineyard on the lands of Bages. The vineyard, which was entirely replanted in the 60s, is now approaching maturity. R. Parker in Bordeaux Wines. Characteristics of Haut Bages Liberal wine: a dark color, a bouquet of prune, truffle and toasted oak, its richness and concentration justify great ambitions after aging. A spicy nose with animal and empyreumatic notes, a significant volume in the mouth, a great silky and persistent tannic structure.
