Expert's opinions
It has a complex bouquet with honey, marmalade and quince aromas that are beautifully defined, but will clearly take a few years to reach their full potential. The palate is very sensual on the entry, honeyed and lavish at the beginning, but retaining wonderful precision and persistence on the lightly spiced finish. This is a seriously good de Fargues that should age effortlessly over the next 30-40 years. As usual, this is one for the serious Sauternes-lovers who know that good things come to those that wait.

Golden and brilliant color. Intense, fruity nose, with notes of butter and flowers. Full on the attack, mellow in the mid-palate, particularly aromatic and melting, the wine develops powerfully, with roasted, long, sappy, persistent flavors, enhanced by a hint of fresh mint. It's superb.

Strong golden yellow. Subtly smoky-herbal spiced ripe peach fruit, some pineapple, delicately of honey, discreet wood spice. Complex, silky, juicy, lots of honey, powerful and persistent, assured aging potential.

The nose is fruity and offers freshness, purity and richness. There are notes of yellow fruits and a touch of lemon, nectarine combined with a hint of Williams pear, honey and more lightly of spices as well as a touch of candied citrus, botrytis and a discreet hint of gingerbread. The palate is fruity, nicely balanced, quite powerful and offers richness, fat, fruity precision, depth and smoothness. On the palate this wine expresses notes of pear in syrup and a touch of quince combined with a hint of candied lemon, pineapple and more lightly of honey, light notes of botrytis as well as discreet hints of Granny Smith apple, roasted pineapple, lemon and tarte Tatin on the persistence. Good length and persistence.

Barrel Sample. This rich wine is opulent, spicy and full of the richest orange jelly and marmalade flavors. The acidity that shows so well this year is what sets this wine on track to a beautiful future.

Racy, with its acidity, this is just great. Concentrated with overripe pineapple. Apricot, and assorted luscious tropical fruits, everything is coated in nuts, vanilla and honey. Concentrated and light on its feet, this is already delicious!

Stunning wine of mineral density, great length and elegance, breed and freshness, delicate bitter note in the impressively long finale, the very great class.

Massive and creamy and hedonistic – Climens style. Toasty finish and utterly glorious. Long and so purely hedonistic. This is like a tincture of pear juice.

Château informations
Château de Fargues has belonged to the same family for over half a millennium! It was in 1472 that this estate entered the Lur Saluces family heritage.
Château de Fargues, like the great Sauternes, can be aged for several decades. Lovers of candied notes will need to wait a good twenty years before taking the wines out of their cellar. Raised by the Lur Saluces family, like Château d'Yquem, this Sauternes reflects the rigor, passion, and talent of great winemakers. The vines spread over about fifteen hectares of gravelly ridges on a clay-gravel subsoil. Grape varieties: 80% Sémillon, 20% Sauvignon. Best years: 1945, 1947, 1949, 1955, 1959, 1962, 1967, 1971, 1983, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1995, 1996.
