Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Tasted at the La Conseillante vertical at Chez Bruce. The La Conseillante '64 has a light, fragrant, simply bouquet, quite ferrous with touches of tobacco and just a hint of truffle, though it does need more vigour. The palate is medium-bodied with a grainy entry, a citric thread of acidity, quite masculine with firm, almost obdurate tannins more redolent of a '66. Yet this has commendable weight and sufficient fruit on the finish, interlaced with touches of soy and tobacco. Lovely, but fading. Tasted December 2010.

Château La Conseillante
Château La Conseillante

The name La Conseillante first appeared in the mid-18th Century. It was inherited from an influential person who managed the property almost 300 years ago: Catherine Conseillan.

On the Pomerol plateau with a clay-gravel soil with iron deposits in the subsoil, the wine comes from a grape variety that certainly values Merlot (70%), but Cabernet Franc, at 25%, gives the wines a particular freshness, complexity and richness.

La Conseillante with its purple capsule recalls the characteristic perfume of the wine. These elements chosen in 1871 by the Nicolas brothers remain elegantly modern at the dawn of the 21st Century. Since that year, the fifth generation of the Nicolas family has been managing the Château.
