Jean-Marc Quarin May - 2001
Jean-Marc Quarin
Dark red. Medium intensity. Evolved. Clear. Medium intensity. Nuances of resin, leather, cedarwood and fruit in syrup. Clear. Intense. Lots of cedar. Smooth entry on the palate, developing on a fairly dense, rich and caressing structure. Full and smooth mid-palate, offering a complex taste reminiscent of meat in sauce. The wine advances in the mouth, juicy and powerful, constantly maintaining its richness. Powerful finish with a complex taste and refined tannicity, in which cedar and leather regain their place. Beautiful length. Completely ready to drink.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Consistently one of the glorious wines of the vintage, and far better than its more renowned stablemate Petrus, La Conseillante’s 1985, which has been fully mature since the late eighties, continues to hold at its magical plateau of maturity. The ostentatious aromatics of smoked herbs, sweet raspberry and cherry fruit intermixed with licorice, Asian spice, and truffle soar from the glass. On the palate, the wine is beautifully concentrated, silky-textured, not a blockbuster, more of an elegant, medium-bodied style, but delicious fruit, impeccable balance, and fabulous purity and staying power in the mouth are what great Bordeaux is all about.

Just a super wine. There is sensuous, silky quality to the texture that gets your engines going. The truffle, mocha, wet earth and floral scents that show on top of the plums and cherries is just what the doctor ordered. There is no reason to age this any longer.

Château La Conseillante
Château La Conseillante

The name La Conseillante first appeared in the mid-18th Century. It was inherited from an influential person who managed the property almost 300 years ago: Catherine Conseillan.

On the Pomerol plateau with a clay-gravel soil with iron deposits in the subsoil, the wine comes from a grape variety that certainly values Merlot (70%), but Cabernet Franc, at 25%, gives the wines a particular freshness, complexity and richness.

La Conseillante with its purple capsule recalls the characteristic perfume of the wine. These elements chosen in 1871 by the Nicolas brothers remain elegantly modern at the dawn of the 21st Century. Since that year, the fifth generation of the Nicolas family has been managing the Château.
