Named for the chilly nature of the terroir, the 2016 la Petite Sibérie is 80% Grenache, with 10% each Syrah and Mourvèdre. Aged 16 months in 100% new barriques, it smells of coconut oil and vanilla, ironically giving it an almost tropical feel. That said, once it's in the mouth, it's more impressive, with layers of ripe fruit seamlessly entwined with vanilla and bourbon, ample weight and presence on the palate, a rich, velvety mouthfeel and a lingering finish.

Founded in 1997 in Vingrau by Hervé Bizeul, former Best Young Sommelier of France, the Domaine du Clos des Fées has become in a single generation one of the benchmarks of Roussillon. Across a mosaic of old vines spread across seven terroirs in the Pyrénées-Orientales, it produces dense and fresh reds under the AOP Côtes du Roussillon and IGP Côtes Catalanes appellations, dominated by grenache, syrah, carignan and mourvèdre, as well as the cult micro-cuvée La Petite Sibérie, made from old grenache vines.

Among the estate's greatest years, the 2011 vintage and 2012 established its reputation, the 2016 wine ranks among its pinnacles, while the 2022 and 2023 carry the brilliance of recent harvests.
