CHÂTEAU BRANAIRE DUCRU 1996

Tasting note : Pure delight, archetype of the grand cru, very elegant and easy to drink. A dense wine with a nose of beautiful complexity dominated by spices. Its color is also always as magnificent. It is a great Saint-Julien with a lot of freshness, without a doubt!

Anecdote about this vintage : Scorching heat in June. July, very nice weather, cool at night. The sun is still out, but regular rains invite themselves", this is what the weather reports tell us. In September, the good weather continues, not a drop of rain in three weeks. It is the late season that will make the reputation of this vintage.

Grape Variety/Blend : Cabernet Sauvignon (~70%), Merlot (~22%), Cabernet Franc (~4%), Petit Verdot (~4%) (variations are possible from one vintage to another)

Ripeness : Must be drunk

Food and Wine Pairing : Grilled red meat, game, grilled white meat and hard cheese

Jean-Marc Quarin September - 2007

Dark red color, intense and slightly advanced. Aromatic nose, feeling the ripe fruit, meaty, but also the alcohol is present. The mouth is soft on the attack and the wine develops sweet, juicy, tasty, lying in its structure and purpose in its tannins. The final is a bit firm and warm, but without harshness.

Tobacco, cigar box, cassis, mocha and cedar wood scents lead to a mature, soft, round wine with a fresh, sweet cassis and earthy finish.

Deep crimson with some development at the rim. Low-key nose, only starting to unfurl but there is a promising amount of Cabernet Sauvignon-dominated fruit here. Not the subtlest wine but quite lip smacking and with quite a future ahead of it.

Château Branaire Ducru
Château Branaire Ducru

Château Branaire Ducru is a fourth classified growth (classification of Bordeaux wines in 1855) of the Saint-Julien appellation in Médoc. The vineyard extends over nearly 60 hectares of vines. Château Branaire-Ducru is today one of the jewels of Saint Julien. This Grand Cru Classé is sought after for its very pure red fruit. Its typical composition of mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, opens with dazzling aromas of raspberry and blackberry, before becoming more complex on the palate with delicate nuances of mineral, pencil lead, smoke and flowers. of spring… The Château also produces a second wine: Duluc de Branaire Ducru.

The best vintages of Château Branaire Ducru are 1975, wines of 1982, 1989 vintage wines, the 1995 vintage and the 1996 vintage. The wines of 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2005 are also exceptional. Finally, the great vintages of 2009, vintage 2010 and the 2015 vintage are great vintages.
