Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Tannins are likely to always dominate this vintage for Branaire. Dark garnet with an attractive bouquet of earth, minerals, cedar, spice, and currants, this wine remains firm and structured. Cedar, graphite, red currants, and mineral flavors are present in its medium-bodied presentation on the palate.

Nose of mushrooms, pepper, leather. Still plenty of acidity on the palate, still plenty of fruit too but more on the dried fruit side. With touch of licorice with some of earthy and tobacco notes. Smooth but still some tannins left. After an hour, there's even more fruit and a touch of floral notes with softer texture but rather youthful given the age but it still doesn't have the balance of 2005 overall. But the mature nose and texture with still vibrant fruit make it an excellent wine that has a nice balance of primary, secondary and tertiary notes.

Jean-Marc Quarin May - 2000

(5-2000). Dark red. Evolved. Medium intensity. Pretty. Precise. Medium intensity. Discreet. Notes of prune and sage. The subtle vegetal note pairs perfectly with the fruit. Stock. Interesting and ready. Clean and soft attack developing on a medium body. The wine is tender in the mid-palate but flavorful. Finish with melted yet present tannicity. Notes of cedar and prune in brandy. Wine that should be enhanced by a meal.

Château Branaire Ducru
Château Branaire Ducru

Château Branaire Ducru is a fourth growth classified (official 1855 Bordeaux wine classification) from the Saint-Julien appellation in Médoc. The vineyard covers nearly 60 hectares of vines. Château Branaire-Ducru is now one of the jewels of Saint Julien. It is highly sought after for its very pure red fruit. Its typical composition, mainly Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, opens with bright aromas of raspberry and blackberry, before becoming more complex on the palate with delicate nuances of mineral, pencil lead, smoke and spring flowers... The Château also produces a second wine: Duluc de Branaire Ducru.

The best vintages of Château Branaire Ducru are 1975, 1982 grand cru wines, 1989, the 1995 vintage and the 1996 vintage. The wines from 2000, 2001, 2003 vintage and 2005 are also exceptional. Finally, the grand crus from 2009, 2010 vintage and the 2015 vintage are great vintages.
