"Fonroque has always produced very good wines in great years. These were often warm vintages that could support relatively high yields and for which ripeness issues were not a concern, on a terroir where some components are not very early-ripening. But a terroir's reputation is also built, perhaps even especially, from smaller vintages. There was clearly an economic sacrifice to be made. Moreover, the pursuit of optimal ripeness had to be rethought from the source, to ensure the harvest of ripe fruit regardless of the year's weather conditions. . "
