This, and the 99 were my wines of the flight. Typical 1985 appearance with an orange/tawny rim. A moderate earthy nose not dissimilar to the 1989 but with more exuberance. Earthy, spicy. Wonderful balance on the palate, an utterly sensuous wine with no rough edges. Great balance and poise. Coffee and capsicum notes. Very good weight on the mid-palate, this must have been stunning in its youth. A little alcoholic on the finish but who cares? Perfect now.
