Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux
Delicious, yet more proof of how this corner of Bordeaux excelled in 1996, and the drinking window is still going strong. Grilled earth, tobacco leaf, crushed mint, dried roses, liqourice, brambled autumnal fruit, fine tannins with a trace of dryness, but full of pleasure. Christian Hostein cellar master, 50% new oak for ageing.

Lots of blackberry, licorice and light tar aromas. Full-bodied, with chewy tannins and a long finish. This needs time.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Fully developed, and in its sweet spot, the wine is medium bodied and easily offers up its smoky, earthy, herbal, slightly rustic, red berry character.

Mid crimson with a ruby rim. Marked evolution on the nose in low intensity. Mellow start and great lift and sweetness. A slight hint of rusty nails but overall a very nice glass of wine.

La Revue du Vin de France
This is an “old-style” Talbot, with a wild side, lots of substance, but a certain rigidity in the tannins.

Château Talbot

Château Talbot is one of the most iconic estates of the Saint-Julien appellation, on the Left Bank of Bordeaux. Classified as a Fourth Grand Cru Classé in 1855, the estate benefits from a strong historical reputation, associated with an accessible, consistent and deeply Médoc style. Its name, inherited from the English Constable John Talbot, a prominent figure in the Hundred Years' War, testifies to the vineyard's antiquity and its roots in Bordeaux history.

The Château Talbot vineyard now extends over approximately 110 hectares, making it one of the largest classified growths in Saint-Julien. The deep gravel soils, resting on clay-sandy subsoils, offer ideal conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, the majority grape variety in the blend, complemented by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and a touch of Petit Verdot. This parcel diversity allows for the production of balanced, precise and consistent wines.

The style of Château Talbot is distinguished by its readability, its harmonious structure and its clear aromatic expression, combining black fruits, notes of cedar, blond tobacco and sweet spices. Renowned for their relative accessibility in their youth while offering solid aging potential, the estate's wines age with elegance. Vintages such as Château Talbot 1982, Château Talbot 1996, Château Talbot 2000, Château Talbot 1986 illustrate the consistent quality and reliability of this great Saint-Julien wine.
