 Wonderful, typically Talbot nose with cedary, fragrant oak atop sweet blackcurrant and meaty, earthy, slightly leafy fruit. Fantastically sweet, jammy fruit on the palate with cassis, plum and nuances of tobacco and woodsmoke. Already very together and very long.

Dark ruby garnet, violet reflections. Chocolatey bouquet, dark berry fruit, multi-faceted and sweet. Good complexity, present tannins that still appear slightly rough, extract sweetness also in the finish, pleasant bitter chocolate finish.

This is a very new-wood dominated wine, that will appeal to lovers of California Cabernet. Blackcurrant jelly fruits are there as well, very modern, very polished. It is a fine wine, but maybe not Bordeaux.

This is fully mature and ready to drink. The fruit has mellowed substantially and it’s not in need of much air, if any, before consuming although it did settle down a bit with 30 minutes of air in the bottle. This is classically proportioned St J on the darker fruit spectrum. The tannins are still noticeable but not intrusive. I suspect this has a nice plateau of a few years as it has not changed much since my last tasting and it still had verve over the three hours I consumed it, but it did not evolve during that time. Drink and Enjoy!

 Garnet with brick at the rim. Aromatically evolved with leather, tobacco and leafy notes but the fruit is still there alongside a hallmark smoky-flinty note. Palate juicy, fresh and digestible. Less overt weight but evolving nicely. Finish a little edgy but good drinking with food.

Château Talbot

Château Talbot is among the most recognized estates in Saint-Julien, on Bordeaux's Left Bank. Ranked as a Fourth Grand Cru Classé in the 1855 classification, it owes its name to the English Constable John Talbot, who died at the Battle of Castillon in 1453. Owned by the Cordier family since 1918, the estate cultivates 110 hectares of single-block gravel terroir dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, crafting an upright, consistent wine with great aging potential.

Great vintages punctuate its history, from the legendary 1945 to the 1982 wine, a benchmark for the estate, through to the 1986 vintage and the more recent 2009. The estate also produces the second wine Connétable Talbot and the rare Caillou White, one of the first white wines replanted in the Médoc.
