Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
Tasted blind at Farr's 2002 Bordeaux tasting. This is very earthy, herbaceous and leafy on the nose, but there is a sense of vigour and clarity that redeems it, developing some attractive melted tar and graphite aromas with time. Tannic palate, masculine, earthy and surly, but good fruit intensity and the austere finish would marry with food nicely. Tasted October 2009.

Jane Anson - Inside Bordeaux
Nuanced aromatics, lightly spiced, cumin, rosemary, freshly cut grass, a little soft on the finish, less powerful grip than the 2000, but a reminder that even in more challenging vintages there is often something to enjoy in Sociando, helping its reputation for consistency.

Jean-Marc Quarin March - 2005
Jean-Marc Quarin
Very beautiful dark red color. Good intensity. Lively. Purple. Intense nose. Fine. Smoky. Beautiful. The palate entry is more discreet than 2003 and 2004, but the wine shows a very, very pleasant balance. Neither too present, nor not enough. It evolves very fruity and very flavorful towards a finish of good length with a slightly firm tannin, then which relaxes to go towards the aroma. It is delicious.

This wine is fresh, with hints of ripe fruit and aromas of tobacco. It has some darkness, good black fruits and dark tannins, along with some good smoky wood.

Dark colored but a bit herbal, almost green pepper. Medium-bodied, with aggressive tannins and a medium finish.

Château Sociando Mallet
Château Sociando-Mallet Cru Bourgeois, a wine from Haut-Médoc in Gironde. Château Sociando-Mallet is a wine prized by fine wine enthusiasts, as evidenced by its annual success in en primeur sales. Jean Gautreau's wine is one of the great overlooked wines from the 1855 classification. Because it is not officially part of the nobility of classified growths of the Médoc - even though it competes with more than a few - Château Sociando-Mallet must remain modest in terms of pricing. It thus offers one of the best value-for-money ratios among all great Bordeaux wines!
