Shaded, transparent garnet. Concentrated, savoury nose with great balance. Already drinking well but with a spine of ripe tannins still in evidence so there is no hurry to consume. The palate is less intense than the nose and if there is a shortcoming, it’s that it is not exceptionally long. But the finish is neat. There's real class in this bottle

Really meaty and dense on the nose, lots of meat stock and gravel, the grip and earthiness much more prominent than on the 2013 sample. On the palate sweetly seductive fruit floods through, adding a real silkiness to the mid-palate, bolstered by chocolate and mocha, before a delicious juiciness powers through. Lovely drying tannin structure adding grip without any roughness, and the acidity is perfect.

Full bodied, tannic and tight, this is far too young to drink today. I like the wines cassis character, but it seems like it's always going to a crisp, tannic, classic personality

Nice red and dark fruit, cassis, plum, herbs, fine oak and tobacco, good weight and density with nice dark fruit, some herbal and spicy notes, good length, fine tannin, albeit restrained and requiring time.

Château Pichon Longueville Baron

Château Pichon Longueville Baron is one of the great names of the Pauillac appellation, classified as a 2nd classified growth in the 1855 classification. A neighbour of Latour, this gravel-soil estate has returned to the heights since its acquisition by AXA Millésimes in 1987: its grand vin, dominated by cabernet sauvignon, seduces with its depth, its aromas of blackcurrant, cedar and tobacco, and its remarkable ageing potential.

From the great successes of the late 1980s, such as the 1989, to the 1982 that has become legendary, through to more recent vintages such as the 2005 wine or the 2012 vintage, the wines of Château Pichon Longueville Baron rank among the most sought-after Pauillacs. The estate complements its grand vin with two second wines, Les Tourelles de Longueville and Les Griffons de Pichon Baron.
