Tasted 4 Times With Consistent Notes.Haut-Brion's 1953 is best purchased today in magnums or larger format bottles. Although it has been fully mature since its release, it has retained the hallmark, singed leather, tobacco leaf, super-ripe fragrance that makes Haut-Brion so distinctive. The wine is extremely soft, revealing considerable amber and rust at the edge, but it still possesses rich, creamy fruit and medium to full body. It does require drinking, so be very careful with regular sized bottled.

Château Haut-Brion is one of the most emblematic wines of Bordeaux. In 1855, it received the supreme distinction of Premier Cru Classé, an exceptional recognition as it is the only non-Médoc estate to appear in the classification of Médoc wines, while also being classified as Cru Classé de Graves. It is today an absolute reference for the Pessac-Léognan appellation.

Its terroir, close to that of Château Latour, gives the wines of Haut-Brion a unique nobility. Without seeking extreme power, the wine is distinguished by its elegance, the finesse of its tannins and a remarkable aging potential, often considered one of the greatest in Bordeaux.

Château Haut-Brion is the oldest, and also the smallest in area, of the Bordeaux Premiers Grands Crus Classés, alongside Château Lafite Rothschild, Château Latour, Château Margaux and Château Mouton Rothschild. While the presence of vines in the region dates back to Roman times, the first written mention of the vineyard dates from 1423. The estate was founded in 1525 by Jean de Pontac and quickly gained international renown. Its reputation was such that it contributed to the very birth of the notion of Grand Cru, mentioned as early as 1663 by Samuel Pepys in his famous diary. More recently, the estate belonged to Clarence Douglas Dillon, former United States Secretary of the Treasury, further adding to its prestige.

Among the most emblematic vintages of Château Haut-Brion are: Château Haut-Brion 1928, Château Haut-Brion 1945, Château Haut-Brion 1953, Château Haut-Brion 1959, Château Haut-Brion 1961, Château Haut-Brion 1982, Château Haut-Brion 1990, Château Haut-Brion 1995 and Château Haut-Brion 2000.
