Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 1967 La Fleur Petrus was tasted from magnum with Edouard Moueix—a "test run" because it was one of the wines they were considering to pour at the forthcoming Académie du Vin dinner. Well, it would be a right choice. The 1967 vintage was actually a good one in Pomerol and Sauternes alone. The bouquet is charming—old school, for sure—but so fresh and vital; with vestiges of mulberry and Earl Grey, it is beautifully defined and developed iris scents as it opened in the glass. The palate is, again, very fresh and lively, with the larger format probably coming into play. What was magical about this wine is the manner in which it improved in the glass, as if gaining substance from the ether. Faint touches of dark fruit, a tang of seaweed, Japanese green tea and truffle. It was an absolutely delicious 1967 Pomerol. The impeccable provenance plus format probably shone it in the best light possible. Nevertheless, what a joy!

Neighbor of Petrus, Château La Fleur-Pétrus is a remarkable Pomerol, fine and round, one of the greatest Pomerols, absolutely essential and still accessible, if one can say so. The terroir of Château La Fleur-Pétrus fully plays its role, with a soil of deep gravel that imparts natural elegance and finesse to the wine. The Cabernet Franc, used in larger quantities, gives a superb result, with wines that should be waited for almost ten years!
