Beautiful, old style claret with outstanding acidity balanced out well enough by smoky red fruits and a touch of green. The texture is fine and lacy with a succulent, grippy finish. A very complex 'Graves" finish with notes of tobacco, fresh forest and grilled nuts. Yum.

Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
A deep garnet core with a thin mahogany rim. The nose is more reticent than the ’85 and indeed, the bottle poured at last year’s vertical. Blackberry, black olive tapenade, redcurrant, leather, cedar and just that trait of mint developing with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied, well balanced with a sappy, slightly pinched entry at first but then broadening out on the middle. Red fruits to the fore and on this magnum this is almost a honeyed texture towards the finish, but still maintaining great balanced and verve. This is a great ’89.

Dark red color. Good intensity. Slight evolution. Nose of medium intensity. Smoky. Toasted on a background of new oak. Changing. Soft attack, a little liquid in the first two seconds then the wine evolves in a straight form, tightening and on firm, fresh and lively tannins. Good aromatic persistence but could be a little riper. Drinks well.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Fully mature, but in the best of ways, the wine offers a sublime set of aromatics that make you believe you're in a high-end tobacco store, located in the middle of a forest. The cigars are lit and you're happy to be smoking one, while sipping on cherry juice that never had the dirt washed off. Finesse in style, with elegant, silky tannins and a softness on the palate, this is really great for current drinking.

Fairly light ruby garnet. Sweet aromas of vanilla pods, cedar spice and sweet leather. Aromatics are lovely and seductive with a palate texture that is even softer than the St Juliens such as Langoa Barton. Ready to drink now - this wine will offer much drinking pleasure without any heaviness. A lightweight Domaine de Chevalier red that is balanced and delicious.

Falstaff January - 2023

Strong garnet red, broad ochre rim. Leafy spice, light cassis and tobacco notes, a touch of mint and some lime in the background. Medium-bodied, rather red berry and lean, fresh acidity, salty and citrusy on the finish, quaffable, but certainly not convincing for the vintage; has its best days behind it.

Deep core, lighter at the rim. Aromatically mature but bold in style. Generous fruit on the palate but freshness as well. Tannins still present but refined. Perhaps a hint of liquorice. Still going strong.
