Ecard's top wine in 1995 is his medium-to-dark ruby-colored Savigny-Les-Beaune Les Narbantons. It possesses deep aromas of wild blueberries, coffee and minerals as well as a thick, chewy, full-bodied, meaty, super-ripe personality filled with the flavors of stones, black cherries, and mocha. This wine's superb finish is buttressed with a massive dose of ripe tannin. Drink it between 1999-2008. In the village of Savigny-Les-Beaune, the name Maurice Ecard is synonymous with quality winemaking. Of the three producers who make the most interesting wines from the vineyards surrounding this hamlet northwest of Beaune, Ecard is the only one who lives and works in Savigny (the others are Bruno Clair and Mme. Lalou Bize-Leroy). Ecard's red 1995s are highly structured and tannic wines that will require several years of cellaring. They were fined but not filtered.
