Wine information
Château informations
Made with classic varieties and a distinctive taste derived from an unusual process, Madeira wine became famous and a world market leader. The development of Madeira wine began with the rich volcanic soil, the climate and a diversity of varieties imported from many parts of world. . The harvest of Madeira wine is intense and a big celebration, beginning mid-August through October sometimes even into November, depending on altitude. Traditionally, the grapes are picked by hand, placed in wicker baskets and transported to Lagar (place where they make wine) where the grapes are first crushed barefoot before going in a mechanical press. Today, the grapes are still often pressed by foot. However, these are mostly local farmers who follow the tradition. .
