Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
The 2000 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee da Capo is a monument to old vine Grenache as well as traditionally made Chateauneuf du Pape. The color is inky/ruby/purple to the rim. The extraordinary nose reveals aromas of kirsch liqueur, new saddle leather, animal fur, Provencal herbs, spice box, licorice, and a salty sea breeze character. On the palate, the wine is enormous, with an unctuosity, thickness, and purity that must be tasted to be believed. Over 95% of this offering is old vine Grenache, and the rest a field blend of ancient vines. Representing the essence of Chateauneuf du Pape, it possesses so much concentration that it is easy to pose the question ... “where’s the tannin?” Analytically, it has very high levels of tannin, but the tannin is barely noticeable given the wine’s exaggerated wealth of richness and power. This is a modern day legend in the making, and despite its precociousness and ease in smelling and consuming, it will not hit its prime for another decade. It should last for 25-30 years, and take its place among some of the greatest Chateauneuf du Papes ever made.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
A massive wall of mouth-filling super ripe, sweet, peppery, deep red fruits with licorice, spice, jam and black cherries that keeps on coming. It is hard to believe this is almost 20 years of age. It seems immortal.

By the time it was served it was wonderfully rich and sweet with fine tea-like aromas and a certain meatiness on the mid palate with some slightly dry tannins still there on the finish. There was a hint of chocolate malt but lovely freshness too. Great stuff!.

Evolved color of medium intensity. Discreet, fruity and vanilla nose. Soft, silky, caressing and fruity palate, but of medium structure. Spicy and licorice finish. Lovely fine and flavorsome wine.

Château Domaine du Pégau
Domaine du Pégau

Domaine du Pégau is one of the major names of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, in the southern Rhône Valley. Established in its current form in the early 1980s by Paul Féraud, continuing a long family tradition of winegrowers established in Châteauneuf-du-Pape since the 19th century, Domaine du Pégau has established itself as an essential reference for great wines of the region.

Established on emblematic terroirs composed of rolled pebbles, red clays and sands, the vineyard of Domaine du Pégau powerfully expresses the historical identity of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The grape varieties are predominantly Grenache, complemented by Syrah, Mourvèdre and the traditional varieties authorized by the appellation. The winemaking emphasizes long fermentations, aging in old foudres and a minimally interventionist approach, faithful to a classic and authentic vision of Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine.

The style of Domaine du Pégau is distinguished by its depth, controlled power, full texture and remarkable aging potential. The cuvées, notably the Cuvée Réservée and Cuvée da Capo, are among the most sought-after wines of the appellation. Vintages such as Domaine du Pégau 1990, Domaine du Pégau 1998, Domaine du Pégau 2000, Domaine du Pégau 2003, Domaine du Pégau 2005 illustrate the consistent quality of the estate and its ability to stand the test of time.

Today led by the Féraud family, Domaine du Pégau embodies a traditional and demanding interpretation of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, recognized by international critics and particularly prized by enthusiasts of characterful and age-worthy Rhône wines.
