Robert PARKER - The Wine Advocate
For the fourth time, the Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee da Capo has been produced, and for the fourth time, it has received a perfect score although I might back off the 2000's perfect score based on the fact that it seems to be more of an upper-ninety point wine than pure perfection these days. The 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee da Capo has distanced itself ever so slightly from the 2003 Cuvee Reservee. Before bottling and immediately after bottling, these two wines’ differences were not as evident. At present the Capo reveals that extra level of flavor, power, complexity and richness. It is a big wine boasting a dark plum/garnet color as well as a stunning bouquet of aged beef intermixed with pepper, herbes de Provence, and steak au poivre. This unctuously textured, full-bodied Chateauneuf possesses enormous body, huge flavors and sweet, velvety tannins. Still youthful, it has not yet begun to close down, and I’m not sure it ever will given this unusual vintage. It is a modern day classic that should continue to provide provocative as well as compelling drinking for 20-30+ years.

Jeff Leve - The Wine Cellar Insider
Mind blowing! It took just 1 sip to knock me over, forcing me to step back, think about it, and go back for another swirl, sniff and sip. This is more than decadent. The levels of concentration here are almost impossible to believe. The wine coats your palate, teeth and gums, and the best part is, it stays there for at least 60 seconds, or longer! Yet, as much as this wine has, everything is in balance, there is just a lot of weight on both sides of the scale. Still youthful, fresh and invigorating, this should drink well for at least 2-3 more decades. But life is short, so if you have a bottle, pop a cork and enjoy the ride!

Enormously concentrated, with notes of mushroom demi-glace, licorice, tar and hoisin sauce, but also marvelously textured, with additional layers of raspberry, fig and currant paste--all supported by thick, ripe tannins. The slashing finish leaves you both winded and begging for more. Best from 2008 through 2035.

One of the most elegant cuvees by Pegau among his 2003s which tend toward big, ripe generous styles. This Cuvee de Capo is seamless, intense and layered with savory as well as sweet spices, licorice and black tea leaves. Long finish.

Uncorked eight hours in advance, with the hope of allowing the wine to unveil its energetic yet elegant character, showcasing its intensity without overwhelming viscosity. With each sip, the palate is enveloped in a harmonious symphony of aromatic red and black fruits, entwined with a tantalizing blend of spices. The experience culminates in a lingering finish, gracefully balanced by fine acidity, leaving an indelible impression of exceptional quality. Undoubtedly, this Capo is a true embodiment of refinement. Excellent!

Château Domaine du Pégau
Domaine du Pégau

Domaine du Pégau is one of the major names of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation, in the southern Rhône Valley. Established in its current form in the early 1980s by Paul Féraud, continuing a long family tradition of winegrowers established in Châteauneuf-du-Pape since the 19th century, Domaine du Pégau has established itself as an essential reference for great wines of the region.

Established on emblematic terroirs composed of rolled pebbles, red clays and sands, the vineyard of Domaine du Pégau powerfully expresses the historical identity of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. The grape varieties are predominantly Grenache, complemented by Syrah, Mourvèdre and the traditional varieties authorized by the appellation. The winemaking emphasizes long fermentations, aging in old foudres and a minimally interventionist approach, faithful to a classic and authentic vision of Châteauneuf-du-Pape wine.

The style of Domaine du Pégau is distinguished by its depth, controlled power, full texture and remarkable aging potential. The cuvées, notably the Cuvée Réservée and Cuvée da Capo, are among the most sought-after wines of the appellation. Vintages such as Domaine du Pégau 1990, Domaine du Pégau 1998, Domaine du Pégau 2000, Domaine du Pégau 2003, Domaine du Pégau 2005 illustrate the consistent quality of the estate and its ability to stand the test of time.

Today led by the Féraud family, Domaine du Pégau embodies a traditional and demanding interpretation of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, recognized by international critics and particularly prized by enthusiasts of characterful and age-worthy Rhône wines.
