Saint Joseph is a French controlled appellation of origin (AOC), located in the northern Rhône region. On the right bank of the Rhône and to the north, the appellation covers more than 25 municipalities in the departments of Loire and Ardèche. Saint Joseph, has nearly 1,200 hectares of vines.
The vineyards benefit from a temperate climate with continental and Mediterranean trends. The Saint Joseph appellation mainly produces red wines with the Syrah grape variety, but also produces white wines with the Marsanne and Roussanne grape varieties. The actors of this appellation are undeniably the 130 winegrowers who work every day in the vines to produce great wines.
The best vintages of the appellation are 1945, 1962, the 1982 vintage, 1996 and the 1991 vintage which are considered excellent. The 1985 vintage is exceptional and the 1978 and 1999 vintage wines are the best successes of the century.
